Self Service for macOS

Engineering Technical Services provides approved software to Faculty and Staff using different tools depending on the operating system. On ETS-managed Mac computers, approved applications are available through Self Service, powered by Jamf.

Self Service lets users install common applications and run approved maintenance or configuration tasks without needing administrator access. If you are using a Windows computer, see Software Center for Windows.

Open Self Service

Open Self Service from the Applications folder, Launchpad, or Spotlight search. If prompted, sign in with your ASU credentials.

Install software

Browse by category or search for the application you need, select it, then choose Install. Most installations run in the background and do not require administrator access.

Available software may vary by school, department, device assignment, licensing, and compatibility with the version of macOS installed on your computer. Some licensed applications are limited to specific groups or must be requested through your local Deskside IT Team.

Updates and administrator access

Many applications installed through Self Service are kept up to date automatically by ETS. Some applications may also appear in Self Service when an update, reinstall, maintenance, or configuration option is available.

macOS updates are managed separately from individual application installs. ETS may provide update notifications or prompts when an operating system update is required. Save your work before starting macOS updates, since a restart may be required.

Installing approved software through Self Service does not require administrator access. If temporary administrator access is needed for a specific task, use the Privileges App on macOS or contact your local Deskside IT Team.

Getting help

If Self Service is not available, does not show applications, or an install fails, contact your local Deskside IT Team or submit a support request through Get Support. Include the application name, your device name if known, and whether you are on campus, off campus, or connected to VPN.

Self Service works best with a reliable internet connection. Some applications, policies, or updates may require VPN or access to ASU network resources when used off campus.
