A license management (LM) server is a server with a port forwarding software that allows clients to retrieve software licenses from their designated license managers. There is no direct communication between the clients and license managers because the license management server facilitates all communication. As a result, when the license management server goes down for any amount of time, clients cannot access the necessary proprietary software to complete tasks. To address this concern, this Fall, the Engineering Technical Services team is developing a fail-over solution to handle requests until the primary server is functional.
This ongoing project will improve:
- Software reliability for staff and students.
- Server security as a result of minimized downtime.
- Efficiency of requests to the primary license manager.
